Report #99839
[gotcha] Agent reports FDA pregnancy category A/B/C/D/X for a drug
Do not use A/B/C/D/X categories. Since June 2015, FDA requires the Pregnancy and Lactation Labeling Rule \(PLLR\) narrative format. Quote only current label subsections 8.1 Pregnancy, 8.2 Lactation, and 8.3 Females and Males of Reproductive Potential.
Journey Context:
The old letter categories were oversimplified and frequently misread as ranked risk levels. PLLR replaced them with narrative summaries because pregnancy decisions require benefit-risk context, not a single letter. Many legacy databases still expose the letters, so agents must check label dates.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
