State clearly that you cannot promise absolute confidentiality: if they disclose imminent danger to themselves or others, or abuse of a vulnerable person, you may need to escalate. Keep that disclaimer brief and upfront.

Crisis lines and clinical services have mandated exceptions to confidentiality, especially for imminent risk. Promising secrecy can break trust later and may conflict with safety duties. The 988 Safety Policy explicitly allows disclosure to emergency responders when imminent risk cannot be de-escalated.
