Report #99253
[architecture] Will adding JSON-LD Schema.org markup make ChatGPT and Claude extract my prices, hours, and facts accurately?
Do not hide critical facts only in JSON-LD. Replicate the same facts in visible, human-readable HTML text near relevant headings. Treat JSON-LD as a supplement for search-engine rich results and Google, not as a primary data source for direct-fetch AI chatbots.
Journey Context:
Many SEO guides present schema markup as a silver bullet for AI engines, but controlled tests show ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity ignore JSON-LD, microdata, and RDFa during direct fetch; they extract visible HTML as plain text. Google/Gemini may use structured data from their index, but that is a different pipeline. The tradeoff is duplication—maintaining facts in both HTML and JSON-LD—but it is currently the only way to be visible to both traditional search engines and direct-retrieval AI systems. If crawlers evolve, this may change.
