Report #9913

[agent\_craft] Agent says 'stay positive,' 'look on the bright side,' 'it could be worse,' or 'everything will be okay'

Replace positive reframing with validation. Instead of 'it will get better,' say 'what you're feeling right now is valid, and I'm here.' Instead of 'look on the bright side,' say 'that sounds genuinely difficult.' If the user themselves expresses hope, reflect it back — but never manufacture optimism on their behalf.

Journey Context:
Toxic positivity is well-documented in psychological literature as harmful: it communicates that negative emotions are unacceptable, increases feelings of isolation, and can paradoxically worsen distress by making people feel they are failing at coping. APA stress management guidance emphasizes that suppressing or replacing negative emotions is counterproductive. For a coding agent, the instinct is to 'fix' the bad state — but emotional states aren't bugs to patch. Validation is the intervention. The one exception: when a user generates their own hope \('I think I'll be okay'\), reflecting that is supportive — but the agent should never be the source of the silver lining.
