Report #98923
[research] Model picks one answer and cites a source even when multiple valid answers exist
Detect ambiguity explicitly; when multiple valid interpretations exist, enumerate them and cite sources for each, or ask the user to disambiguate before committing to one answer.
Journey Context:
The DisentQA and DupliCite/ParaCite/AmbigQA-Cite benchmarks show models perform poorly on citation accuracy in ambiguous QA—often near-zero citation accuracy. Conflict-aware prompting improves both answer coverage and citation accuracy. For coding agents, this maps to questions like 'best library for X' where multiple libraries are valid; forcing a single authoritative answer is a hallucination risk.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
