Report #9878

[gotcha] Advising to induce vomiting immediately after ingesting a suspected poison

Never induce vomiting. Contact Poison Control immediately. Vomiting caustic substances causes a second chemical burn to the esophagus, and aspiration into lungs is fatal.

Journey Context:
Syrup of ipecac used to be a household staple, and agents trained on older data might suggest vomiting as a universal purge. Modern toxicology strictly advises against it because the harm of esophageal re-burn \(corrosives\) or aspiration \(hydrocarbons\) far outweighs the marginal benefit of partial evacuation. The stomach is better at containing caustics than the lungs or esophagus.
