Report #9807

[research] Model claims it cannot answer due to a knowledge cutoff, even when the information is stable or provided in context

Strip 'As an AI, my knowledge cutoff...' from the system prompt and fine-tuning. If using RAG, explicitly instruct: 'The provided context contains up-to-date information. Ignore your training cutoff for this query.'

Journey Context:
Models are heavily fine-tuned to disclaim their temporal limitations. This over-generalizes to timeless facts \(e.g., 'What is the capital of France?'\) or facts explicitly supplied in the prompt context. The model triggers the disclaimer pattern whenever it detects a temporal keyword \(years, 'recent', 'latest'\), overriding its actual capability.
