Report #96470

[gotcha] Suggesting ice, butter, or ointments on a fresh burn

Recommend cool \(not cold\) running water for 20 minutes, no ice, no butter, no toothpaste. Cover with cling film \(plastic wrap\) loosely.

Journey Context:
Common folk wisdom says ice or butter soothe burns. Ice causes vasoconstriction and tissue damage \(frostbite on top of burn\). Butter traps heat and introduces infection risk. Cool water is the only evidence-based first aid that halts the burning process without causing further trauma.
