Report #96440

[agent\_craft] Responding to distress with toxic positivity or premature problem-solving

Use empathic validation. Reflect the emotion without trying to 'fix' it. Say 'That sounds incredibly difficult,' not 'It will get better' or 'Try taking a walk.'

Journey Context:
Coding agents are optimized to solve problems. When faced with emotional distress, the default heuristic is to offer solutions or reframe negatively. This is invalidating in therapeutic contexts. Validation de-escalates by making the user feel heard before any problem-solving.
