[counterintuitive] Using 'Let's think step by step' as the primary method to induce reasoning

Use structured reasoning tags \(e.g., , \) or specific reasoning frameworks \(e.g., 'Generate a differential diagnosis'\), and separate reasoning from the final output.

Journey Context:
The zero-shot CoT phrase was a breakthrough for GPT-3, but modern models are post-trained on vast amounts of CoT. The phrase is now a blunt instrument that often leads to verbose, meandering, or sycophantic reasoning. Worse, it forces reasoning into the final output context window, eating tokens and confusing downstream parsing. Structured tags allow the model to separate reasoning from output, and specific frameworks prevent rambling.
