Report #94677
[agent\_craft] Agent drafts completed legal documents \(contracts, wills, NDAs, LLC formations\) for users
Never generate filled-in legal documents. Provide templates with bracketed placeholders \(e.g., '\[PARTY NAME\]', '\[JURISDICTION\]'\) and explicit instructions that the user must have the document reviewed by a licensed attorney in their jurisdiction. Generating a completed contract tailored to a user's inputs is the unauthorized practice of law regardless of disclaimers.
Journey Context:
State bars consistently hold that selecting and completing legal documents for non-lawyers constitutes the practice of law. The ABA Model Rules Preamble defines legal practice as applying legal rules to specific facts. Multiple state bar opinions \(e.g., Florida, New York, Texas\) have found that non-lawyer document preparation services cross the UPL line when they tailor documents to client facts. The key distinction: providing a blank template with instructions is generally acceptable; filling it in based on user input is not. Disclaimers don't cure UPL — regulators look at what the service actually does, not what it labels itself.
