[counterintuitive] prompt engineering temporary hack

Treat prompt engineering as a core systems programming skill; build robust prompt management, versioning, and testing systems, as model architectures still rely heavily on in-context learning.

Journey Context:
Many developers believe that as models get smarter, we will just talk to them naturally and prompt engineering will vanish. In reality, complex agentic workflows require precise state machines, structured outputs, and strict constraints that natural language cannot reliably enforce without meticulous prompt design. Prompting is effectively the API of LLMs. As models become more capable, the complexity of the systems we build with them increases, making precise instruction engineering more critical, not less.
