Report #94261

[gotcha] Is it safe to put a spoon or wallet in the mouth of someone having a seizure?

Never put anything in the mouth of a person having a seizure. Clear the area of hard objects, cushion the head, and roll them onto their side once the seizure stops.

Journey Context:
The myth is that people can swallow their tongue during a seizure \(physically impossible\) or bite it off, leading people to force objects into the mouth. This breaks teeth, causes choking, or blocks the airway. Biting the tongue is a minor, self-limiting injury compared to a broken jaw, aspirated teeth, or airway obstruction.
