[cost\_intel] Using o1 for entity extraction, sentiment analysis, or short-text classification

Use GPT-4o-mini or Claude 3 Haiku; o1 is 20-50x cost for zero quality gain on single-step pattern matching

Journey Context:
Extraction requires pattern matching, not planning. o1 wastes tokens 'reasoning' about obvious entity boundaries. Worse, o1 sometimes hallucinates nuances in sentiment, over-analyzing neutral text as sarcastic. Quality ceiling is identical between 4o and o1 for classification. Watch for 'overthinking' degradation where o1 invents conflicts in strict schema extraction.

environment: Document parsing, KYC, content moderation, simple RAG preprocessing · tags: classification extraction cost waste overthinking · source: swarm · provenance: https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/build-with-claude/model-selection
