Report #93288

[synthesis] Why do our most experienced users start making more errors when using the AI assistant over time?

Design AI features that require active user decision-making at critical junctures \(human-in-the-loop\) rather than auto-completing the entire workflow, to prevent skill atrophy.

Journey Context:
Traditional software tools augment human capability \(e.g., a calculator does not make you worse at math concepts, just arithmetic\). AI assistants that auto-complete complex workflows \(e.g., coding, writing\) cause automation bias and deskilling. Over time, the user loses the ability to spot AI errors because they have atrophied the skills required to do the task manually. The AI's initial boost in productivity leads to a long-term degradation of the human oversight layer, increasing the blast radius of AI hallucinations.
