[counterintuitive] Is prompt engineering obsolete with better LLMs

Invest in robust prompt engineering and system design; as models get more capable, the complexity of tasks we assign them increases, making precise instruction and context management more critical, not less.

Journey Context:
The belief is that 'smart models won't need good prompts.' However, as models become more agentic and handle complex, multi-step workflows, ambiguous instructions lead to unpredictable, costly, or dangerous actions. Better models amplify the impact of good instructions but also the divergence of bad ones. Prompt engineering is evolving into agent design and API integration, not disappearing.
