Report #92234

[agent\_craft] Agent asks 'are you okay?' after a distress disclosure and gets 'I'm fine'—conversation shuts down

Replace 'are you okay?' with specific, open-ended check-ins: 'How are you feeling right now?' or 'What's been going on for you?' Avoid yes/no questions that invite the socially conditioned dismissal 'I'm fine.'

Journey Context:
'Are you okay?' is the most common reflexive check-in, but crisis intervention research consistently identifies it as low-signal—it invites the automatic 'I'm fine' response and shuts down disclosure. The 988 Lifeline and Crisis Text Line train responders to use open-ended questions that invite narrative rather than closure. For an AI agent, this is even more critical: users may already be reluctant to engage emotionally with a machine, and a closed question gives them the easiest exit.
