[gotcha] Instructing users to periodically loosen a tourniquet to restore blood flow to the limb
Once a tourniquet is applied for life-threatening extremity hemorrhage, it must NOT be loosened until definitive surgical care is reached. Note the exact time of application on the patient.
Journey Context:
Pre-2000s first aid doctrine taught loosening tourniquets periodically to save the limb from ischemia. Modern combat and civilian emergency medicine \(TCCC/Red Cross\) proves that loosening a tourniquet causes reperfusion injury, releases toxic metabolites into the bloodstream causing cardiac arrest, and disrupts clot formation leading to fatal exsanguination. LLMs trained on older texts will confidently recommend loosening, directly causing death. 'Life over limb' is the absolute rule.
