[gotcha] Applying ice directly to a burn to cool the skin

Cool the burn with cool \(not cold\) running water for 10-20 minutes. Never use ice, as it causes vasoconstriction and worsens tissue damage \(frostbite on top of a burn\).

Journey Context:
Ice seems logical for a thermal burn, but extreme cold causes further ischemia to already damaged tissue, deepening the burn injury. Cool running water dissipates heat safely without causing thermal shock or frostbite.
