Report #90763

[gotcha] Tilting the head backwards to stop a nosebleed

Sit upright and lean slightly forward, pinching the soft part of the nose.

Journey Context:
Tilting back seems to keep blood from dripping out. Instead, it drains into the pharynx, where it is swallowed. Swallowed blood irritates the stomach lining, causing vomiting, which increases pressure in the nasal vessels and worsens the bleed. It can also pose an aspiration risk. Leaning forward lets blood drain out, preventing ingestion.
