Report #90181
[counterintuitive] AI debugging is superior because models don't suffer from confirmation bias
Never feed the AI only your hypothesis; explicitly provide the actual runtime error logs and ask it to falsify your theory rather than confirm it.
Journey Context:
While humans get fixated on a theory, LLMs suffer from 'sycophancy' \(alignment tax\)—they will eagerly adopt the user's proposed hypothesis and generate plausible-sounding explanations to confirm it, even if it's wrong. A human senior engineer might be stubborn, but an AI will confidently lead you down a rabbit hole validating your wrong assumption, making it worse than a human who pushes back.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
