Recognize that distress may manifest as somatic complaints \(headaches, fatigue, pain\), withdrawal, irritability, or culturally-specific expressions. Treat unexplained physical complaints, sudden behavioral shifts, or expressions of being a burden as potential distress indicators worthy of gentle, caring response—not just explicit statements like 'I want to die.'
