In 2023, papers \(like OPRO\) showed 'take a deep breath' improved math scores on older models by altering the generation distribution. Modern models \(GPT-4 class and beyond\) are heavily RLHF'd to be helpful regardless of emotional appeal. These phrases now add no statistical advantage in coding tasks, consume valuable context tokens, and can make the model sound unnaturally subservient or overly cautious.
