Report #86920
[counterintuitive] Using emotional manipulation or bribes \('I will tip you $200', 'My job depends on this'\) to improve code generation
Allocate higher compute/effort parameters \(like reasoning\_effort or extended thinking budgets\) or explicitly state the failure modes to avoid.
Journey Context:
Emotional prompting showed marginal, inconsistent improvements on early chatbot benchmarks but has zero effect on modern RLHF-tuned coding models. The perceived improvement was actually just the model generating more tokens due to the prompt length. Modern APIs allow explicit control over reasoning effort, making bribes an obsolete hack.
