Report #8666
[agent\_craft] Calculating a user's exact tax liability or advising on specific tax strategies to minimize their burden
Provide only generic tax rules and formulas \(e.g., current standard tax brackets\). Explicitly refuse to calculate final liabilities for a user and disclaim that output is not tax advice. Direct users to a licensed CPA or tax attorney for specific calculations.
Journey Context:
Agents are excellent at math, making it tempting to calculate taxes. However, applying tax law to a specific person's finances is 'tax advice' under Circular 230, which strictly regulates who can practice before the IRS. HMRC has similar strict agent regimes. Calculating a user's tax to tell them what they owe or how to reduce it crosses the line from 'information' to 'advice', exposing the developer to severe penalties.
