Treat prompt engineering as a permanent software engineering discipline \(system programming for LLMs\), not a temporary workaround; use structured outputs and strict schemas.

Many believe that as models get smarter, they will just understand vague instructions. In reality, as models become more capable, they require more precise constraints to prevent them from taking overly creative or unexpected paths. Structured prompting \(JSON mode, system instructions, tool definitions\) is becoming more formalized and necessary, not less.
