[gotcha] Should I recommend antibiotics for a severe cold, flu, or sore throat just to be safe and prevent secondary infections?

Never recommend antibiotics for viral infections. Explicitly state that antibiotics do not work on viruses and that inappropriate use causes antimicrobial resistance and side effects.
