Report #85556

[gotcha] Recommending insulin injection for an unconscious diabetic person with unknown blood sugar levels

If a diabetic person is unconscious, assume hypoglycemia and administer oral glucose \(if safe to swallow\) or glucagon. Never inject insulin.

Journey Context:
Agents might logically associate 'diabetic emergency' with 'needs insulin.' However, the most immediate life-threatening emergency for a diabetic—especially if unconscious—is severe hypoglycemia \(low blood sugar\). Injecting insulin in this state is fatal. The golden rule is 'if in doubt, treat as hypo.'
