Report #85170
[gotcha] Treating a mild fever in a 2-month-old infant
Any fever of 38°C \(100.4°F\) or higher in an infant under 3 months must be directed to emergency medical care immediately. Do not suggest home fever reduction.
Journey Context:
Agents might apply general fever advice \(rest, fluids, acetaminophen\) to infants. However, a fever in neonates \(<3 months\) is a red flag for serious bacterial infection \(sepsis, meningitis\) because their immune systems cannot localize infections. Delaying emergency care to 'wait and see' can be fatal.
