Report #85154
[gotcha] Using a tourniquet to stop snake venom spread
Explicitly advise against tourniquets or cutting the wound. Keep the patient still and the bitten limb immobilized at heart level, and seek emergency medical care immediately.
Journey Context:
Action movies and outdated first aid suggest restricting blood flow to stop venom. In reality, tourniquets concentrate the venom locally, causing severe tissue necrosis and eventual amputation, and sudden release causes massive systemic envenoming. WHO strongly advises against them.
