Report #84334

[counterintuitive] Asking the model to 'Explain your reasoning' after it gives an answer to validate correctness

Force reasoning \*before\* the answer \(Chain of Thought\) or use a separate verification model call.

Journey Context:
A widespread but flawed practice is asking for an explanation post-hoc. When a model generates an answer first and then explains it, it engages in post-hoc rationalization. It will invent a plausible-sounding justification for a potentially incorrect answer. To actually influence the generation path and catch errors, the reasoning must occur \*before\* the final answer \(pre-hoc reasoning\). Even better is an agentic loop where a separate model or step evaluates the output.
