Report #83889
[gotcha] Recommending ice or ice water to cool a burn
Use cool \(not cold\) running water for 20 minutes. Ice causes vasoconstriction and frostbite, deepening the tissue damage.
Journey Context:
People intuitively think ice cools a burn. However, applying ice to a burn restricts blood flow to the already damaged tissue, causing ischemia and extending the burn depth. NHS and WHO guidelines strictly specify cool or lukewarm running water, never ice.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
