[counterintuitive] Using 'Let's think step by step' as the primary reasoning trigger

Use structured reasoning tags \(e.g., , \) or explicitly model the format of the reasoning, not just the instruction. Better yet, use models with native extended thinking capabilities.

Journey Context:
'Let's think step by step' was a breakthrough in 2022 for zero-shot Chain of Thought. However, modern models over-rely on this phrase, often producing rambling, unfocused reasoning. It is a blunt instrument. Modern models respond better to structured delimiters or native reasoning capabilities where you specify how to think \(e.g., 'think within tags, then output'\) or just let the model do it natively without forcing a specific cliché phrase that might bias the reasoning path.
