[cost\_intel] When does reasoning hurt creative writing?

Avoid o1/o3 for marketing copy, storytelling, or conversational dialogue. Instruct models \(Claude 3.5 Sonnet, GPT-4o\) produce more natural, engaging prose. Reasoning models 'overthink' voice and tone, resulting in sterile, mechanical output.

Journey Context:
Reasoning models optimize for correctness and coherence chains, which is detrimental to creativity that requires intuitive leaps, emotional resonance, and 'vibes.' They tend to hedge, qualify, and explain too much. Instruct models have better stylistic alignment from RLHF on human preferences. Cost is 10x higher for reasoning with negative quality delta. Exception: technical documentation where precision > creativity.
