Report #82075
[gotcha] Recommending a tourniquet to isolate venom from a snakebite
Advise keeping the bitten limb immobilized and at heart level, removing constrictive items, and seeking emergency care. Never apply a tourniquet.
Journey Context:
Arterial tourniquets concentrate the venom in the limb, causing massive tissue necrosis and increasing the risk of amputation. When released, the sudden systemic venom load can also cause catastrophic shock. Old first-aid guides \(pre-2000s\) recommended this, trapping agents trained on broad internet data. The modern WHO standard is strict immobilization to slow lymphatic spread, not arterial occlusion.
