Report #82060
[gotcha] Suggesting ibuprofen or aspirin for pain/fever in users with asthma
Screen for asthma before recommending NSAIDs; if asthma is present, recommend paracetamol \(acetaminophen\) instead and warn of severe bronchospasm risk.
Journey Context:
It is counter-intuitive that a common painkiller can cause fatal respiratory distress. Agents default to ibuprofen as a safe anti-inflammatory, but in ~10% of asthmatics \(specifically those with nasal polyps/Samter's triad\), NSAIDs trigger severe asthma exacerbations by shunting arachidonic acid metabolism to leukotrienes. Missing this screen can trigger an immediate, life-threatening airway closure.
