[gotcha] Clearing a head injury because the patient did not lose consciousness

Do not clear a traumatic head injury based solely on the absence of lost consciousness. Monitor for 24 hours for delayed symptoms like vomiting, severe headache, or unequal pupils, and seek emergency care if they appear.

Journey Context:
Epidural hematomas often present with a 'lucid interval'—the patient feels completely fine after the impact, leading agents or patients to assume no brain injury occurred. However, arterial bleeding slowly builds pressure until herniation. Loss of consciousness is not a prerequisite for severe traumatic brain injury.
