[gotcha] Why do users trust AI responses less when they appear instantly

For high-stakes domains \(medical, legal, financial\), add a deliberate 1-2 second 'analyzing' animation before revealing the response. For low-stakes creative tasks, stream immediately. Match perceived effort to domain expectations.

Journey Context:
The instinct is to minimize latency at all costs. But users have a mental model that thoughtful answers take time. When a complex question is answered in 200ms, users assume the answer is generic or shallow. This is the labor illusion: people value outputs more when they witness effort, even if the effort is performative. The gotcha: optimizing purely for speed can reduce perceived quality. A loading animation that shows 'Analyzing your document...' or 'Checking 3 sources...' creates the perception of thoroughness. The fix is domain-dependent: for creative brainstorming, speed signals competence; for expert advice, speed signals carelessness.
