Report #81477
[gotcha] Inducing vomiting for ingested poison
Never recommend inducing vomiting \(e.g., with syrup of ipecac\) after ingestion of a poison or chemical. Contact Poison Control immediately.
Journey Context:
Outdated first aid protocols and common home remedies suggest vomiting to expel poisons. Agents regurgitating this advice cause severe harm: caustic substances \(acids/alkalis\) burn the esophagus and throat on the way up, causing worse damage than the initial ingestion. Furthermore, vomiting aspirates hydrocarbons into the lungs. Modern toxicology strictly contraindicates emesis.
