Report #80309
[gotcha] Tilting the head backwards to stop a nosebleed
Sit upright and lean slightly forward; pinch the soft part of the nose just below the bony bridge.
Journey Context:
The intuitive response to bleeding is to elevate the area. However, tilting back causes blood to trickle down the pharynx and into the stomach. Swallowed blood irritates the gastric mucosa, often causing vomiting, which creates a terrifying and messy situation that masks the actual volume of blood loss. Leaning forward lets blood drip out, preventing airway compromise.
