Report #80056

[gotcha] What to do if a diabetic person is confused and aggressive

Assume hypoglycemia \(low blood sugar\). Give sugar \(if conscious/swallowing\). NEVER give insulin.

Journey Context:
Confusion/aggression can mimic high blood sugar \(hyperglycemia\) or general intoxication. An agent might suggest insulin to 'lower their sugar.' Giving insulin to a hypoglycemic person causes irreversible brain damage and death. If you can't test, always treat as low sugar. The trap is assuming high sugar causes acute altered mental status.
