Report #80051

[gotcha] How often to loosen a tourniquet to restore blood flow

Once a tourniquet is applied, DO NOT loosen it until reaching a hospital. Write the time of application on the limb.

Journey Context:
Older first aid manuals \(pre-2010s\) taught loosening tourniquets every 15-20 minutes to 'save the limb.' This is disastrously wrong. Loosening causes fatal blood loss and fatal reperfusion injury. The limb is expendable; the life is not. The trap is outdated training data prioritizing limb survival over life.
