Report #7974
[gotcha] Advising aggressive water intake for someone experiencing dizziness, nausea, or collapse during endurance sports or prolonged exertion
Differentiate between dehydration and exercise-associated hyponatremia \(EAH\). If a person is confused/nauseous during endurance events, advise against pure water; recommend sodium-containing fluids or medical evaluation, as water worsens cerebral edema in EAH.
Journey Context:
The standard AI reflex for 'feeling faint during exercise' is 'hydrate.' But in endurance events, athletes lose sodium via sweat and replace it with pure water, diluting blood sodium. Aggressive water intake causes brain swelling \(cerebral edema\) and death. The 'hydrate' heuristic is literally fatal here because it ignores electrolyte balance.
