Report #79499

[counterintuitive] Using 'Act as an expert' persona prompts to improve task performance

Specify the exact process, decision rubric, and constraints the expert would follow instead of assigning a persona.

Journey Context:
Modern instruction-tuned models do not gain reasoning capability from roleplay; persona prompts often introduce stylistic bias \(verbosity, arrogance\) without improving accuracy. Specifying a computational process \(e.g., '1. Extract variables, 2. Check against constraint X'\) forces the model into a specific reasoning pathway, which is the actual mechanism that improves output quality.
