[counterintuitive] Appending 'Let's think step by step' is the optimal way to induce reasoning

Use structured planning tags \(e.g., ...\) or native reasoning models \(o1/o3\) instead of zero-shot CoT triggers.

Zero-shot CoT was a breakthrough in 2022, but modern models often overthink or hallucinate irrelevant steps with blunt CoT triggers. Worse, it wastes output tokens on verbose, unstructured reasoning. Structured planning separates reasoning from execution, and native reasoning models handle CoT internally without requiring the user to manually trigger it via magic phrases.
