Report #78570

[frontier] Agent drifts from original persona and constraints after 20\+ turns in a long session

Inject condensed identity anchors — a 2-3 sentence distillation of your most drift-prone constraints — every 15-20 turns or at major task transitions. Do not repeat the full system prompt; target only the constraints that compete with the model's default behavior: persona identity, output format, and hard boundaries.

Journey Context:
Production teams discovered that a single system prompt at session start is insufficient beyond ~20 turns. The model's attention to early context degrades as conversational tokens accumulate. Full system prompt re-injection wastes tokens and can cause contradictory instruction artifacts when the original prompt and the re-injected version land at different positions in the attention window. The emerging practice is a condensed anchor that hits only the constraints most likely to drift — not capabilities, not preferences, but the identity-critical rules that the model's training weights actively pull against. This is distinct from a 'reminder'; it is a deliberate attention-weight rebalancing mechanism.
