Report #78287

[gotcha] Preventing tongue swallowing during a seizure

Do NOT put anything in the mouth of a person having a seizure. Do NOT restrain them. Clear hazards, cushion the head, and roll them onto their side once active movements stop.

Journey Context:
The persistent myth that people can swallow their tongue leads to forced insertion of objects \(spoons, wallets\), causing broken teeth, airway obstruction, or finger amputations. The tongue cannot be swallowed; forcing objects into a clenched jaw causes severe secondary injuries.
