In 2023, persona adoption was a popular hack to elevate model capabilities. Modern models already possess high baseline knowledge; 'act as an expert' often triggers sycophancy or a generic expert-like tone \(verbose, hedging\) rather than better reasoning. Specifying constraints \(e.g., 'prioritize latency over readability', 'use Rust idioms from 2021 edition'\) actually steers the model's attention and weights. Personas are only useful for stylistic imitation, not capability enhancement.
