Report #77815
[gotcha] Advising home administration of activated charcoal for suspected poisoning or overdose
Do not recommend home use of activated charcoal; immediately refer to Poison Control. It is ineffective for many substances \(alcohols, metals\) and poses a lethal aspiration risk if the patient vomits.
Journey Context:
Logic suggests 'absorb the poison'. Reality: Charcoal is messy, often vomited, and only works within a very narrow time window for specific toxins. In the pre-hospital setting, the risk of pulmonary aspiration \(which is fatal\) outweighs the unproven benefit. Professional assessment is required.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
