[synthesis] The moving goalposts of user expectations in natural language interfaces

Actively restrict the perceived capability of the AI by using UI constraints \(e.g., suggested prompts, disabled free-text for certain modes\) to anchor expectations to the products reliable capability envelope, rather than allowing the LLMs implied omniscience to set expectations.

Journey Context:
Software UIs constrain user behavior through rigid forms and buttons, implicitly setting expectations. Natural language interfaces imply omniscience; users will ask the AI to do things it was not designed for. As base LLMs improve, this expectation gap widens faster than the products specialized capabilities. The failure is not a technical bug, but an expectation gap. You must use UI/UX to artificially constrain the input distribution to match the models reliable training domain, synthesizing interaction design with ML input boundary management.
